I Don't Need the Whole Map, Just the Next Step
I used to think faith meant having a plan.
Like, a real plan. The kind with timelines and spreadsheets and backup options for the backup options. I'd pray, make my list, and then wait for God to hand me the whole map before I moved.
I'm learning that obedience doesn't always look like a map. Sometimes it looks like one small step.
Have you ever stood at a crossroads where you knew staying put wasn't it, but moving felt terrifying because you couldn't see where the road went? That's been my whole year, honestly. Building Kabsykreations while raising three kids will do that to you. Every week there's a decision that doesn't come with a guarantee: take the order or protect the time, spend on the thing or save, say yes to the opportunity or sit this one out.
I kept waiting for clarity. The full picture. A sign so obvious I couldn't miss it.
But here's what I'm realizing: God rarely shows the whole route. He shows the next step. And the next step is usually smaller and less dramatic than I want it to be. Text the person. Sign up for the thing. Do the one task instead of staring at all twenty.
"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." (Psalm 119:105)
A lamp doesn't light up the whole road. It lights up the next few feet. And apparently that's by design, because the point was never that I'd have it all figured out. The point is that I keep walking with Him while I figure it out.
I'm still learning this, by the way. I'm still the girl who wants the five-year plan before she'll order the business cards. But every time I've taken the small step without the full picture, it's worked out in ways I couldn't have planned. And every time I've waited for perfect clarity, I've mostly just... waited.
So maybe the question isn't "Do I know where this leads?" Maybe it's "Do I know the next right step?"
What about you? What's one small step you've been avoiding because you can't see the whole map yet?
